Tom Jefferson

Tom Jefferson, an expert in infectious and respiratory diseases, has been working hard in 2009-2011 on investigating Swine Flu and related vaccines, drugs. Based in Rome, he is a senior associate tutor and honorary research fellow of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, University of Oxford; researcher with the Nordic Cochrane Centre and visiting professor at Newcastle University. Jefferson is first author of the Cochrane Review on Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses.

In this panel, Tom Jefferson will talk about the best available evidence about the effects of wearing face masks in the general population, and will convey the available scientific facts on what a PCR test can and can’t say. Jefferson will also explain us what we can learn from the past – why have we been adopting lazaretts for hundreds of years of infectious diseases management, and what the Tamiflu and Swine Flu saga has taught us?
