I’m an investigative reporter with the Times of Israel focused on financial crime and cyber-fraud. I’m interested in the ways the world of offshore finance has unleashed a tsunami of white-collar malfeasance. I exposed Israel’s binary options industry, a loosely connected industry of sophisticated investment scammers—largely based in Israel with the assistance of people throughout eastern Europe—that eventually stole billions of dollars from people all over the world. Stunningly, Israel has indicted none of the thousands of people who were involved in this fraud --a fact that speaks to the impunity enjoyed by today’s white-collar organized criminal as opposed to “blue-collar” organized criminals of decades past. I plan to speak about the challenges of writing about complex financial structures without sacrificing the pleasures of a well-told story.
