Jeta Xharra is Kosovo director and co-founder of the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), a non-profit network supporting free speech, human rights and democratic values in the Balkans. She is also host and editor of “Life in Kosovo”, a popular current affairs program on Kosovo public television that has been on the air since 2005. She began her career in journalism in 1998 as a fixer/local producer for BBC News and Channel 4, later becoming the manager of the BBC’s Kosovo bureau. In 1999, she worked for BBC News in Albania and Macedonia, and in 2003 she opened the Kosovo office of the London-based Institute for War and Peace Reporting. Xharra earned an MA in war studies at King's College London (2000) and an MA in screenwriting from the London College of Printing (2002). She has written for several international publications, including The Independent, The Economist, The Sunday Telegraph and Jane’s Intelligence Review.
